Day 12: (June 26, 2019) -Thank you to all the students for participating in Brainy-Acts! I thoroughly enjoyed our time together and hope you enjoyed the challenges and new learning. Have a wonderful summer! Mrs. Blake
Day 11: (June 25, 2019) - Today we saw the performance of Sing-it, Act-it, Shake it, played Mancala, finished our ciphers for open house and did our last Davnici Doodle. Reminder of Open House on Tuesday, June 25 from 5-7 pm. Can you solve the codes to unlock the boxes?
Thank you to all those that were able to join us for our open house. It was fun to see families work together to solve the puzzles and play some of the games!
Day 10: (June 24, 2019) - Today our focus was on optical illusions. We saw many examples of optical illusions and learned there is a 1/10th of a second delay from when your eye sees something to when your brain registers what is being seen, therefore lending itself to the optical illusions. Students had an opportunity to create a #-D black hole as well as other 3D pictures to create a three dimensional image on a 2 dimensional paper. Check out these chalk drawings by some of the world's most talented street artists!
Day 9: (June 21, 2019) Today students had to unlock the locked box by solving the code breaker puzzle. Inside was a new message written in the Pig Pen cipher. Additionally, students learned to play set and had time to play many of the games that we have learned.
Day 8: (June 20, 2019) - Stillwater Escape Room - Students worked together to try to Escape Mr. Connolly's Office. They were all close - just needed a few more minutes.
Day 7: (June 19, 2019) - The teamwork challenge today required students to work in their teams to create a new state. In addition to naming their new state, they were asked to identify their state flower or tree, create a slogan for their state and write a state song. It was fun to see all the creativity.
Day 6: (June 18, 2019) The Zombies had invaded our room and stolen our pizza! Students had to work together to solve the puzzles to save the pizza and find the zombie blaster to escape out the door.
Day 5: (June 17, 2019) The students were quite energetic today. In addition to completing a Teamwork Challenge, the students had a chance to try their hand at a variety of logic puzzles and brain teasers. The game of chess was introduced to the students. Students who already knew how to play were able to dive right in, while those who were novices, played a variety of mini games to learn the moves of each chess piece.
Reminder - our field trip to the Stillwater Escape Room is on Thursday. Students will need to bring a bag lunch and beverage.
Day 4: (June 14, 2019) Today students participated in a Breakout Room - Minecraft Style! The students were close to solving all the puzzles, but 45 minutes just wasn't enough time. Through good teamwork and perseverance, they were finally able to solve all the puzzles.
Day 3: (June 13, 2019) Students were able to partake in a digital BreakOut room - the Zombie Ship! Everyone was able to escape!! Students also learned to Crack the Code and decode a transposition cipher. Q-Bitz and Quorridor were the two new games that they learned. REMINDER for students to bring $10.00 on Friday (if they haven't already) to contribute to the cost of the field trip.
DAY 2: (June 12, 2019) Today was a great day to test perseverance and growth mindset. Students had two locks to unlock in order to get to their atbash cipher. Students also learned how to play Othello and Pente. We did some team building activities as well. One activity had students creating names with fitting occupations such as: Chuck Roast is a butcher, Jack Hammer is a construction worker, and Dan Druff is a hairdresser.
DAY 1: (June 11, 2019)Today was fabulous. It was great to meat each of the students. The students spent the day learning about some famous polymaths. Student created Davinci Doodles to jump start the brain. We had to figure out the code to our locked boxes to get our next puzzle. Students had to work in teams to decipher the code and then solve the riddle. We also learned some new games: Gobblet, Blink, and Spot-It. Gobblet, by far, was their favorite game. Can't wait to see what Day 2 has in store for us.
