Here it is folks the last week of SEEK. On Tuesday we would like to invite you to our Art Gallery to see all our of Art displayed! Our Gallery will be open from 5-7 pm. Hope to all see you there!
Today we continued out pointillism work and started to learn about a new artist. Sonia Delaunay was an artist famous for her abstract work. We learn about how her and her husband created a new form of art. The art movement called Orphism. Strong colors and geometric shapes defined this movement. Our class looked at a few of these pieces of art and examined the colors she used and how she arranged the shapes. From there we got inspired and started work on our own projects!

Today we finished our self portrait collages! They are so fun and wacky. We tried to embrace Pablo Picasso's vision of art, just because it doesn't look perfect doesn't mean it is not beautiful! What a great message. We will see you all next week!

Talk about some "Action" today. We used action painting to imitate some of Jackson Pollock's work. Sorry about our messy clothes, the paint is washable. Take a look at some of our amazing work with pictures above and below!
We moved on to our next artist Pablo Picasso. Funny fact he actually had 15 given names! He was none for some of the abstract and cubism works of art. We were inspired by those periods and got to work on out next masterpiece!
Reminder our field trip is tomorrow! Please look for the informational sheet that is coming home with your child today!

Today was a great day! We continued work on our Henri Matisse collage masterpieces. We learned about positive and negative shapes. The shapes that we cut out are the positive shapes and the spaces in between are negative shapes. We took our shapes that we cut out and mod podged them on to a balloon creating a vase. Take a peek at our work in action.
We moved on to our next artist, Jackson Pollock. He was known for his style of Abstract Expressionism. The project we have in store for this artist will be a splattering good time!
On Thursday we will be heading to Franconia Sculpture Garden. It will be an extended day we will be back at the school at 2:30. Please remember to pack a lunch and bring $10.

Another great day of SEEK, we finished our bridge paintings inspired by Monet. We used our fingers to create an impressionistic look. These paintings were on canvas, which made us feel like real artists. Take a look at our work!
We rolled right in to another artist after that, Henri Matisse. He was primarily known as a painter he did other works of art. Today we worked with cut out shapes, another area Henri Matisse was known for.
Remember that Thursday is our day for our Field Trip. Please have students bring a bagged lunch that day and $10. Thanks!

There it is folks the first week of Project SEEK in the books!
We have been working so hard on art and art appreciation. We took some time today to wrap up our Georgia O'Keeffe paintings and than transitioned to another great artist, Claude Monet.
Monet was known for being an impressionist. We reviewed what that style of painting means. Than we studied one of his most famous works. Bridge Over A Pond of Water Lilies. We took inspiration from that and made our own with a little spin on the project.
Have a wonderful weekend and look forward to next week!

Here we go again, today we learned about the art style of modernism. The artist that we studied today was Georgia O'Keeffe. She was a very inspiring artist. Georgia O'Keeffe was inspired by the nature around her and some of her famous works were all the flowers she painted.
We replicated some of her flowers today by painting them in the same style. On top of that we worked on mixing colors, shading and learning about how to fill up the whole space of the our paper. We painted big! Take a peek at our work in action up top!

Another amazing day at Project SEEK, today we learned about impressionism, a style or movement in paintings originating in France in the 1860's. "The impressionist artists were not trying to paint a realistic picture, but an ‘impression’ of what the person, object or landscape looked like to them. (This is why they are called impressionists). They wanted to capture the movement and life of what they saw and show it to us as if it is happening before our eyes." (Tate.org) Here is a website that has more information

We studied the works of Vincent VanGogh one of the famous artist that used this style of art! We finished off our day with a project inspired by the painting Starry Night. Ask your kiddos about their day and what they learned!
