Hello everyone! I am so excited you will be part of our business team this summer. Here is our welcome letter that gives you all of the important information before we meet on June 11th.

Hello fellow entrepreneurs!!
We hope that you are prepared for a fun-filled time at SEEK this year, as we will be operating the SEEK store as well as developing and selling some of our own product ideas.
Your ‘homework’ assignment for the next couple of weeks, before we see each other on June 11th, is to think of a few ideas that our ‘business’ can develop, market, and sell. While you are thinking of these ideas, please write down the supplies that we would need to make the product and any ideas that you would have for marketing (promoting) the product.
On the first day, please bring the following to class: your idea sheet, a pencil and a spiral notebook to write other ideas in. We will provide you with a binder for our time together, that way we will all stay organized and have our business materials all in one place! Also, as ‘business owners’, we would like to see a smile and a positive attitude each day!!!
Until June 11th, make the most out of the school time you have left! If you have further questions, please contact us by phone 651-213-2153 or by email at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Mrs. Spray

The first three days have flown by and this group is full of great ideas! After three days of business and adding new products each day, they are ¨in the black.¨ Obviously they are super excited about that. We are also in the process of planning for Open House already. As soon as we figure out the menu, we will announce it to everyone.
Here are a few messages that I have sent via email to the parents of students in our class:
EXTENDED DAY
Our extended day is just ONE week away! Here is our plan for the day:
~ until 10:30 A.M., "business" as usual at the elementary school
~ 10:40 A.M. walk to Frandsen Bank & Loan for a tour and lesson on the
banking world
~ 12:00 P.M. walk from Frandsen to Pizza Hut for lunch. Students will need to
bring money for Pizza Hut. They do have a lunch buffet, but they can also
order off the menu as well.
~ if your child has a Project SEEK t-shirt, I ask that they wear one. If not,
please do not feel you have to buy one!
OPEN HOUSE
Today in class we talked about our Open House schedule and what we would like to sell in regards to food items. The number of items they choose depends on the number of students that can work each shift.
For those of you not familiar with Open House, it's Project SEEK's Super Bowl. This is the culmination for us to show case to our parents and other SEEK goers what we've been doing and what our class is about. So, it's important that we have as many of our business partners present as possible!
The shifts are as follows:
4 - 5 P.M. set up and begin selling
5 - 6 P.M. sell and stock
6 - 7:30 P.M. sell and clean-up
Please discuss with your child tonight what shift(s) he/she will be able to work on Tuesday, June 25th. It would be helpful if they all come back tomorrow morning with their availability, so we can make our schedule up.

They finished the first week ¨in the black¨ at $54.01. Then, after some higher expenses due to a larger product order, they finished the first day of week two ¨in the black"at $50.53. Then the best thing happened, they broke $100 profit after today´s one expense and snack shop income! There was just a little excitement in the air!
Each year, the class discusses different charities that may be close to their hearts or that they have heard about. I ask the students to be prepared to promote his/her charity of choice and then the class votes on which one(s) they would like to support. I am proud to announce that we are supporting Feed My Starving Children AND Disabled Veterans Foundation. Each charity will be receiving 10% of our profits, plus any extra donations that are given at Open House next week.

The weather cooperated and our extended day plans went as planned! We took a bus to Frandsen Bank & Trust, then walked from there to Pizza Hut. During our visit at the bank, we were able to see ¨behind the scenes¨ for in all of the areas of the bank. We saw the vault, where we learned they no longer keep any money there (at least at this bank). Then we were able to ¨help out"at the drive thru, but only had one customer come through while we were there. Each student was given the opportunity to lift $1000 in quarters....ask your child how heavy that was! They even got to see an ATM machine from the inside! The students learned how important it is to have a saving account and were even given a 50 cent piece to help them get started. We ended our time out of the building with a lunch buffet at Pizza Hut. I think we all walked away very full and were just fine with our walk back to school, as it helped with how much we all ate!

Well, today they hit the $200+ profit margin! However, they are a bit skeptical about the supply order they compiled throughout the morning. We will see where our money stands after our expenses for Open House. We have talked about ¨it takes money to make money.¨ So, they know they have to spend some of their profits in order to make some more money.
