Today's class started out with two tired teachers and many tired students. Yesterday took a lot out of all of us. We didn't let that stop us! Costume set up and our changing room were first on the agenda. Once we had everything set up, we did our first dress rehearsal of the show. When we add in the costume changes, kinks in the show become evident. The kids made it almost to the end of the show before we had to take a late snack break. When we returned we did a second dress rehearsal. This one ran a little more smoothly. We still needed to make adjustments, but we are ready to perform for classes on Monday.
The kids were mentioning that some parents had scheduling conflicts with our Open House performance. We will be performing in the morning on Monday and Tuesday. We do a show at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. each of those days, to show all of our hard work to the other classes. It also helps us get ready, so we can show you our BEST work on Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. You are welcome to come at these times if you can't make it to Open House.
SEEK is at Pine City Elementary School. You can park in the back by the playground. If you go into door 16, and our classroom is the first door on your left.
Again, don't hesitate to email us with any questions you may have!

Today was longer, but the work and fun didn't stop. We started out working on scenery. Painting the sets is always a highlight. From there some of us ran down and purchased a snack for later in the day. Once we were back, we did a run-through of the show. We stopped a little early to go and check out the sharks in the Dissections class.
After that, we walked to Pizza Hut for lunch. This was a new experience for Mrs. Bakken and me. We typically order pizza to the school and add in some veggies. Despite two SEEK classes being there at the same time, there was plenty of pizza, pudding, and pickles to fill these kids up. To be honest, I was wondering where they were stuffing all that food. LOL!! :0)
Once we returned, we got to work on some costumes, did another run through, and decided to take about 20 minutes to play on the playground. Everyone worked so hard!
Tonight's homework:
COSTUMES- We have dress rehearsal tomorrow, so we need all costumes by tomorrow.
MEMORIZING PARTS- Things were sounding pretty good without scripts today. :0) Keep working at home to reinforce those lines.
REST- I don't know about the kids, but Mrs. Bakken and I are exhausted! Rest up. :0)

What a great day!! Mrs. Bakken started us out with some yoga this morning, a little chicken dance followed, and then it was on to a full run through. Things are becoming more streamlined as we all get more comfortable.
After snack, we learned the choreography to our last three dances. It's a lot to take in AND remember, but they are working so hard.
Tomorrow is our extended day. We will be starting the day by painting our scenery. Students spent time in small groups designing their section of the scenery while Mrs. Bakken and I prepped the wall for some amazing artwork tomorrow. As you can see from today's photos, we will also be working on some costume items.
Tomorrow will be our first day without scripts. We are ripping off the bandaid and can't wait to see these kids show us what they've got. We know they can do it! :0) They still need to be practicing at home.
A reminder that we will be going to Pizza Hut for lunch tomorrow. Please send money with your child.
Open House for Project SEEK is next Tuesday, June 25 from 5-7 P.M. We will be performing our show at 5:30 P.M. Students will need to arrive at 5:15 p.m. to get costumes on and get ready for the show. We are so excited and can't wait to share all we have learned and created with you!!

Are your eyes playing tricks on you? Did I forget to upload all the pictures? Sadly, the answer to both questions is no. We have been so busy today that the above photo is the only one I took. Mrs. Bakken brought her sewing machine today and continued her hard work on all of our costumes. After a warm-up, the kids and I did a run through doing the choreography for the two songs we learned yesterday and made adjustments to our blocking. We made it through the whole show before snack... a first for us!
We did take a break for snack, but once we returned it was full on choreography time. We learned at least 4 new dances. I'd love to show you some photos, but since the kids did the choreography, I was learning as well.
There were three songs that were not choreographed yesterday, so students who played those roles were able to work on getting those dances ready for tomorrow. Those without a song to work on did more research on an Ancient Egyptian topic or continued working on their posters from classes past.
It was another great day! We look forward to tomorrow's adventures as we design the lay-out of our scenery and look ahead to the extended day this Thursday.

Two words for this Monday... risers and choreography. Once again it was a busy day in our classroom. Mrs. Bakken and I used our mad skills and got the risers put together. We started out with a great costume conversation. This show is a bit more intense with costuming, and Mrs. Bakken is incredible! After that we got our spots on stage and did some blocking. Before we knew it, it was time for snack break.
After snack we got our creative minds working on choreography. Students were divided into groups to come up with movements to go with their songs. We saw a lot of smiles, heard laughter, and enjoyed that next step in developing friendships.
This week is crucial in the development of our show. We really need students here every day this week!! Let's just say that if you miss a day you are missing a LOT! We are learning so much each day that it is really difficult to get kids caught up.
Extended day will be filled to the brim with activity! Please be sure your child is dressed to paint scenery. Creating Ancient Egypt can get messy. We will also be walking to Pizza Hut for their lunch buffet. Students 10 years old and younger should bring $6. Anyone over 10 should bring $9. We really tried to get them to give all the kids the $6 deal, but the manager wouldn't go for it. :0(
Please let us know if you have any questions!!

It was another hectic day in Sing it, Act it, Shake it. The kids warmed themselves up with a game of tag this morning. For some reason, it has become a favorite activity when we have a few moments. We did a little stretching and then played our blanket game.
After all that fun, Mrs. Bakken and the kids had a chat about costumes. The kids brought home a costume list. Let us know if you have any questions. Our brains were working on a lot of different things today, so we're hoping it all makes sense. I will post the document in a post below.
We did a partial read/sing through before snack. We are now using the music (songs 11-20 on the CD) without the words, and they did GREAT!!
After snack, we spent more time on our posters. It was fun to see their creative ideas come alive on their posters.
We wrapped up the day by finishing the read through. We also sang all the songs in the show and started thinking about choreography ideas. Next week is chock full of work that will take place. Blocking, choreography, costuming, and an extended day filled scenery and fun of all kinds.
Mrs. Bakken and I have decided to try something new for lunch on extended day. We are thinking of walking to Pizza Hut and doing their buffet. We will let you know more information on our post Monday.
Have a wonderful weekend and keep memorizing parts!

Today was day 3, and we were on fire! Mrs. Bakken had us doing some yoga during warm-ups, and then we were onto a read through. So many students showed off the memorizing they had done the night before. Individual groups sang their songs this time. Just before snack, we had time to play the blanket game. This is an annual favorite!
After snack, we were off to the computer lab. Students were divided into groups, and those groups had a topic to research. After sufficient research had been done, we returned to our classroom to work on group posters. As I waked around, I heard one student tell her group that she was so happy to be working with them. This is one of the additional benefits of the class... getting to know kids from other districts. We love seeing those connections being made.
We took a break from posters to assign solo parts for those who were interested. We then sang through those songs together. It was so much fun to hear those voices sparkle and shine!
We are looking forward to another great day tomorrow!

Finally, some photos of these great kids! We started our day with a warm up of stretching, THE Chicken Dance, and a group circle dance jam. It is still chilly in our room, so this got our blood flowing and warmed us up a bit.
After that, we spent a chunk of time getting to know each other's names. We didn't have a lot of time for that yesterday, and teamwork is the name of the game for this class.
I'd say that today was the most leisurely day we will have until the last day. That being said, we helped each other highlight our parts, did two read throughs of the script, had snack, took a 10 minute break, and sang through favorite songs until it was time to go. Yes, that is leisurely for this class. We move at a fast pace as we have a lot to get done in the seven days we have before performing in front of an audience!!
Homework for tonight is to work on memorizing lines and getting familiar with the songs. Tomorrow will include at least one read through with groups singing their own songs, team research work in the computer lab, starting posters to teach our classmates about our research topic, along with more singing and moving.
We love it and hope your child does as well!

Today was an amazing day! It was so fun to meet you all and get started. It was a whirlwind day in our classroom. We had time to introduce ourselves before listening to a read through of the script and the songs. While doing that, students signed up for at least 4 parts that they were interested in. We were able to start our try-outs and then take a short break for snack. It was quite the process, but by the end of class everyone knew their parts. This is the first year we were not announcing parts as we were lining up to leave. :0)
If your child remembers their part(s), they are welcome to highlight them. Mrs. Bakken and I will be happy to help them tomorrow if they forget which parts they are. Kids can sometimes have hurt feelings if they did not get a part they really wanted. Please reassure them that we see their talents and have a plan for them and the show. Some students will have additional parts singing songs and performing solo parts (if they choose).
Quick tidbit, our room is VERY cold. We are hoping that they can figure out how to fix this, but please send your child with a sweatshirt just in case.
We also forgot to take any pictures today. We will make up for it in tomorrow's post.
We are so excited to see where these next few weeks take us!

Dear Students,
Come join us for an adventure with ancient Egypt! We can’t wait to get started singing, acting, and shaking (that means dancing) with you.
Our musical this year is called “Hatshepsut Queen of Denial.” If you’re wondering, it is pronounced HAT-SHEP-SUT. :0) Your first assignment begins now. Get online or find some library books to answer the following questions... Where is Egypt? Who was this Hatshepsut lady? What and who is maat? Yes, I did spell that right. What is the Nile? We’ll have more questions once you arrive, but this should be a nice start.
Next download, print, and open up the script, so you can begin to learn what adventure is in store. Read the script carefully. Once your CD arrives in the mail, listen to those songs, so you can begin to decide what part/parts you would really like to have. We will ask you to sign up for four parts you are interested in. ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS we will be trying out for parts, so start practicing now.
Bring all of your talents with you. Warm up those voices, dig deep so you can project loud and clear, get ready to memorize parts and start moving your body. We also need you to bring your creativity as we will be developing costumes and painting scenery. We will also be learning a bit about ancient Egypt. Can you believe we will do all of this in just twelve days? Be prepared to work hard and most importantly have FUN!!!
On the Extended Day June 20th , our lunch plans will involve ordering pizza. Anticipated cost will be about $5 - $7. More information will be sent home when you arrive in June! Enjoy the end of your school year. Be ready to SING! ACT! And SHAKE IT!!!!!
We can’t wait to meet each and every one of you!
Sincerely,
Ms. Hitchcock and Mrs. Bakken :0)
